| We're
just a bunch of ordinary folks (mostly professional farriers) who
live on a spit of land that extends south between the Chesapeake
and Delaware bays. This little spit of land is called the
DelMarVa
Peninsula. It is made up of the Eastern Shore of Virginia,
the Eastern shore of Maryland, and Delaware. For years we
had talked about getting together and forming an organization so
that we could hang out and learn about farriery without having to
travel to the big cities where all the national farrier education
events take place. We figured that if enough of us got together
we could afford to bring some of the top educators in our field
to our neighborhood. In
2004 we finally got enough of us together in one place to create
a real organization. Requires Acrobat

Our founders decided
that the DFA would be an independent organization - we are not affiliated
with any national farrier group or any other organization.
We also decided to focus our educational events on a hands-on format.
This gives everybody a chance to learn by doing instead of just
watching somebody or falling asleep during a lecture.
Evidently our idea was
a good one. In our first 4 years we have grown to over 100
members. Folks come to our clinics from all over the east
coast Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. What started out as
a grass roots organization has turned into one of the largest regional
farrier associations in the world. We hosted over
TWENTY farrier education events in our first 5 years . . .
AND, we're just getting started!!!
